Velindre Cancer Centre welcomed some special visitors to provide gifts to patients, visitors and their families.
A number of the Trust’s Young Ambassadors volunteered to help distribute the 400 Easter eggs which were kindly donated once again by Motonovo Finance, having doubled their donation from last year.
It was also the young ambassadors’ first real experience of volunteering in the Cancer Centre since the COVID-19 pandemic.
Lucesca Walters, Patient Engagement and Volunteer Support Officer at Velindre University NHS Trust, said:
“When we heard 500 Easter Eggs were generously being donated, we knew we needed the help of dedicated, passionate and energetic supporters. Our young ambassadors are all of that and more.
“Their donation of time in this instance has been invaluable to us and has made so many of our patients, visitors and staff members smile. We thank each and every one of them for their kindness.”
The Young Ambassador scheme was relaunched by the Velindre Cancer Charity in 2020 and has helped to raise over £64,000 to fund vital services at Velindre Cancer Centre.
These young people, aged 4-14, have all been affected by cancer in some way and are extremely passionate about continuing their contribution to Velindre.
We're excited to now be in a position where we can create more exciting volunteering opportunities for young people at Velindre in conjunction with the return of the official Velindre Volunteer programme.
In the coming months, we hope to increase the ways our young supporters can bring positivity to our centre, influence our work and help design our future, specifically through the development of a Trust-wide youth engagement strategy.
