Prehabilitation

Prehabilitation can help people living with cancer to become fitter, stronger and psychologically ready for their treatment.

Our programme is delivered by health care professionals from across Velindre Cancer Centre, and they will support you to get ready for your treatment.

Whether it’s for yourself or a loved one, please take a look at the pages below. They include important information and resources about prehabilitation.

Hi my name is Kate Baker. I'm the Macmillan Head of Therapies here at Velindre Cancer Centre. Prehabilitation is a process to enable you to be ready for your treatment. This is to be physically ready and psychologically ready. Prehabilitation will allow you to optimise your outcomes following your treatment, whether this be chemotherapy, radiotherapy or immunotherapy. Prehabilitation consists of three key areas. These include physical activity, psychological well-being and nutritional advice. There is a very strong evidence based for prehabilitation. It can reduce your complications of treatment, it can enable you to have better outcomes at the end of your treatment, and there can be an element of behaviour change. Prehabilitation gives you the toolkit to enable you to have better control of your cancer. We've prepared the web pages just for you, to enable you to have a better understanding of what you can do to help yourself during your cancer treatment. Please use this information and let us know if you have any queries or questions around this.
