The 2024 People’s Choice Award winner has been crowned!

The prize was presented as part of the Trust’s Employee Excellence Awards ceremony which took place this week at Coleg y Cymoedd in Nantgarw.

Inspirational colleagues were recognised and celebrated in 16 different categories, including the People’s Choice Award for which nominations were open to the public.

Over a period of two months, a total of 34 of nominations were made for 26 different employees from across the organisation.

After much deliberation by the panel of judges, they came to the conclusion that the worthy winner was Siân Hampton.

Siân is a healthcare support worker at Velindre Cancer Centre who currently supports with peripherally inserted central catheters (PICC) lines.

She joined Velindre almost three years ago in the SACT department and still works there too from time to time.

“I just feel overwhelmed and really proud,” said Siân after receiving her award.

“Going to Velindre every day, I don’t like to call it work. I love what I do and the staff are wonderful.

“Every day I’m inspired by the patients and by the team I work in, so this award means everything to me.”

Professor Donna Mead, Chair of Velindre University NHS Trust, said “The Employee Excellence Awards are an important event in the calendar of Velindre University NHS Trust.

“It’s one day in the year when we can all come together and recognise the excellence that exists across the Trust: in the Welsh Blood Service, in Velindre Cancer Centre and in our corporate and support departments.

“It enables us to meet those individuals who are innovating, developing services and providing high-quality care and to tell them how proud and how grateful we are.”
