The Velindre Macmillan Welfare Benefits Team has helped hundreds of families secure over a million pounds of financial support in just three months.
Between July and September 2024, the team successfully applied for £1.3 million worth of benefits and grants to over 300 patients and their families.
The Velindre Macmillan Welfare Rights Service is an Advice Quality Standard (AQS) accredited advice service, which assists patients on applications for a range of issues, from health-related benefits to disabled parking badges.
Hayley Price, Welfare Rights Manager at Velindre Cancer Centre said ”This is a huge accomplishment and truly makes a significant difference to the health and wellbeing of those supported.
“We know that receiving a cancer diagnosis can have a huge impact on your financial circumstances, whether you’re in or out of work. On top of that, many people have been feeling the pressure of managing their money as the cost of living continues to be an issue.”
“We’re here to support patients, families and their carers to navigate the benefits system, helping people work out what they may be entitled to and potentially which benefits they may be better off on.”
Referrals for benefits advice can be made directly to the Welfare Benefits Team between Monday-Friday by phone on 02920 316277 or by emailing vcc.supportivecare@wales.nhs.uk.
