Velindre University NHS Trust is proud to have been accredited as Veterans Aware as part of its continued commitment to the Armed Forces Covenant.
Veteran Aware accreditation aims to ensure that patients from the Armed Forces Community are not disadvantaged when accessing healthcare. Accredited trusts do this by developing, sharing and driving the implementation of best practice, at the same time aiming to raise standards for everyone accessing NHS trusts.
The Trust as a service provider and employer, is a strong advocate of Defence advocating internally and externally its forces friendly credentials, the promotion of the Armed Forces Covenant and achievement of the Gold Defence Employer Recognition Scheme Award.
Professor Donna Mead, Chair of Velindre University NHS Trust, said:
“I have long been a supporter of the military and what the Armed Forces Covenant represents for the military community. Velindre University NHS Trust is committed to supporting and delivering on its promise to the covenant and further developing relationships with the military.”
The announcement was made as Velindre Cancer Centre unveiled its dedicated flag to mark Armed Forces Week.
A small ceremony took place on the morning of Monday 24 June outside the main reception where the flag was unveiled by Trust Chief Executive, Steve Ham.
The morning also included a speech by Chair of the Trust, Professor Donna Mead, a musical performance by former Fundraising colleague, Alexandria James, and a reading of the poem 'Cân y Milwr' by Welsh Language Manager, Jo Williams.
The week leads up to Armed Forces Day, which is celebrated every year across the UK on the final Saturday of June.
