New Pharmacy Patient Information Animations Launched!

Following the success of last year's tyrosine kinase inhibitor (TKI) animation, the Pharmacy Patient Education team has released two new informational video on the use of Cyclin Dependent Kinase inhibitors (known as CDK 4/6) and PARP inhibitors.

CDK4/6 and Parp inhibitors are targeted therapies used for the treatment of several types of cancer, currently including Breast, Ovarian and Prostate cancers.

The CDK video was funded through a collaborative working project with Novartis Pharmaceuticals. The team worked with the animation company Everso Creative. 

The PARP video was made possible by an educational grant from Pharma& and animation by Rockadove.

These two projects take the education video library to three resources. Targeted therapies are ideal for patient education videos as the drugs within each group have similar side effects.

At Velindre, patients receive a bespoke education consultation from the Pharmacy Patient Education team to help them understand how to take their medication, how to safely manage toxicities, and when to ring the treatment helpline for advice.

These videos will help to ensure all patients have access to this information at the point of receiving their medication and throughout the duration of their treatment, supporting the work of the clinical teams.

Sarah Goman, Pharmacy Patient Education Team Lead and the driving force behind these videos, said:

"We wanted to make sure that patients had access to information about the treatment that they are receiving in a way that is easy to understand and reflected the information given in clinic and by the education team. We also wanted them to be able to share the information with family and cares who are maybe unable to attend when they come to the hospital. By making this video we can share key common side effects for these treatments to patients and their carers which they can refer to at home. Based on the feedback that we received from the initial video, the aim of these animations is to compliment any written or verbal information already received.

The videos are available to be viewed with both English and Welsh subtitles.
