Call for Photography Submissions: Hope and Healing in the Natural World

We are excited to announce an open call for staff, patients or carers to submit their photographs for the first community exhibition at Velindre Cancer Centre.

Theme: New year, New Beginnings; Hope and Healing in the Natural World.

Through the photography lens we seek to highlight the healing qualities of nature, and capture the beauty, resilience, and serenity found in the natural world.

We invite photographers to submit images that evoke themes of hope, restoration, and healing -whether through the calm of a sunrise, the vibrancy of a blooming flower, or the gentle touch of a forest.

The selected photographs will be displayed in an exhibition in Velindre Cancer Centre in Spring 2025.

Submission Guidelines:

  • Submissions are invited from staff patients and carers as well as the wider Velindre community.
  • All skill levels and cameras are welcome.
  • To be accessible we welcome images taken on a smartphone but due to issues with enlarging photos, selected images will be displayed as a collage.
  • Photographs must be original and taken by the submitting photographer.

How to Submit:

  • Please submit up to 3 high-resolution images (minimum 300 dpi)
  • Each submission should include a brief artist statement (max 200 words) describing how the photograph reflects the theme of hope and healing.
  • All submissions should be sent via email to sally.thelwell@wales.nhs.uk with the subject line "Hope and Healing Photography Submission."

Selection Criteria: Submissions will be reviewed based on creativity, emotional impact, and connection to the theme of hope and healing. A panel of curators and medical professionals will select images for inclusion in the exhibition.

Important Dates:

  • Submission Deadline: January 31st 2025
  • Exhibition Opening: Spring 2025

We look forward to seeing your photographs!
