We are pleased to unveil a new mural on a wall leading to the secret garden by Ambulatory ward.

Mural artist Phil Cheater created a vivid and colourful mural of flowers which will and brighten up a forgotten part of the cancer centre site and act as a clear landmark leading people into the serenity of the garden.

It is widely recognised that art can improve public spaces, particularly in a healthcare setting, inspiring healing and making places more beautiful.

The mural is part of a wider project working in partnership with Arts organisation Morlas, with the aim of supporting the mental health of young people who have a parent or loved one with cancer or who have been bereaved by cancer.

The project will also include:

  • Artists led sessions with the Young Ambassadors to create and decorate wooden planters which will improve the physical appearance of the Cancer Centre.
  • Creative sessions as part of the Summer Jambori in August.
  • The development of resources to support the mental health and well-being of young people aged 11-17, as part of the work of the Specialist Care team and Michele Pengelly.

This project is funded by the Arts Council Wales and the Baring Foundation. For more information about the project please visit: https://arts.wales/news-jobs-opportunities/arts-and-minds-arts-programme-support-youth-mental-health-across-wales
