Velindre Cancer Service has launched a new animated video to help inform patients who are being treated with immunotherapy checkpoint inhibitors.
The video provides a visual representation of how the treatment works, its possible side-effects and how to manage them.
Immunotherapy checkpoint inhibitors are a groundbreaking class of drugs that help the immune system recognise and attack cancer cells. It is used to treat several cancers, including melanoma and lung cancer.
Valerie Harris, the Immunotherapy Lead Nurse at the Velindre Cancer Service, said:
“We wanted to create an engaging resource that provides comprehensive information about checkpoint inhibitor immunotherapy.
“Our video simplifies complex medical information and presents it in a visual and easy-to-digest format, allowing patients to refer to it from the comfort of their own home and know exactly where to access help and support when needed.”
So far, feedback on the video has been overwhelmingly positive, with one patient saying it is “informative and clearly narrated” and another commenting that it’s “easy to watch with useful information.”
The video can be viewed below in English and is also available in Welsh.
