This week, we say a sad farewell to Sarah Morley, who retires after an incredible 11 years as Executive Director of OD and Workforce at Velindre University NHS Trust.
Sarah started her career as a Freelance IT Consultant and Trainer, before bringing her plethora of skills into the world of NHS Wales. She progressed in the field of Training and Development in Gwent Healthcare NHS Trust (now Aneurin Bevan UHB), where her talent and dedication led to her appointment as the Head of Development and Well-Being in 2010. Following a successful period as Assistant Director of OD at Cardiff and Vale University Health Board, we were fortunate to welcome her as our Executive Director of OD and Workforce in July 2014 - a role she continues to lead with vision, compassion, and impact.
Sarah has consistently demonstrated an unwavering commitment to advancing the People agenda within the NHS, earning widespread respect and credibility as an Executive Director of Workforce and Organisational Development. Her influence extends far beyond our organisation: she is highly regarded across the People profession in the UK and currently serves as joint President of HPMA Cymru - a testament to her leadership and dedication.
It goes without saying that Sarah has been a cornerstone of our organisation over the past decade. Her unwavering commitment and deep expertise have played a crucial role in shaping a culture where staff feel supported, valued, and empowered. Through her leadership, she has championed initiatives that prioritise well-being, foster personal and professional growth, and ensure that every individual feels seen and heard.
Sarah’s legacy is one of meaningful impact. Her leadership has been thoughtful, engaging, and consistently people-centred. The foundational work she has led within the Trust has not only transformed our present but will continue to influence and inspire future generations of staff, paving the way for a more compassionate, resilient, and forward-thinking workforce.
