A new strategic plan that will set Velindre University NHS Trust’s clinical and scientific strategic direction for the next five years has been launched today.
The organisation’s first-ever clinical and scientific strategy will strengthen its position and articulate the role it will play within the regional and national context.
It recognises the importance of strong clinical and scientific leadership and governance, and ensures the Trust continues to transform care and improve outcomes and experiences for our patients and donors.
Following a comprehensive consultation period where staff and stakeholders were invited to contribute their insights and suggestions, the strategy has been shaped to reflect a wide range of perspectives and expertise.
Nicola Williams, Executive Director of Nursing, AHPs and Health Science, said:
"We strive to be at the forefront of research development and innovation by not only delivering but also to be leading transformational change across our specialist cancer, blood and transplant services.
"Together we aim to make a profound impact on countless individuals and pave the way to a healthier future, as well as provide fulfilling careers to out amazing staff.”
The principal aim of the strategy is to ensure the delivery of high-quality, safe, and effective, person-centred care as we drive forward improvements in quality, safety, and patient and donor experience.
It is underpinned by four strategic aims:
Dr Jacinta Abraham, Executive Medical Director, said:
"This strategy recognises the incredible contribution of our clinical and scientific workforce across all services.
"With over 1,200 professionals across cancer, blood, and transplant services, their expertise is central to how we deliver care.
"The strategy sets out a clear and ambitious direction, reinforcing our commitment to scientific excellence, clinical quality, and innovation.”
