Dr Susanna Whawell joins the Board of Velindre University NHS Trust

Velindre University NHS Trust has welcomed the appointment of Dr Susanna Whawell as a new Associate Independent Board Member.

Dr Whawell joins Velindre with over 20 years’ experience in supply chain and logistics across a variety of blue chip and international firms.

The Trust’s Board exists to oversee the system of governance and control. This means it makes decisions on how the organisation is run and how to keep staff and patients safe. The Trust’s Board has many different groups focused on separate areas of operations, which are known as ‘committees.’

Dr Whawell’s role as an Associate Independent Member will see her contribute her skills and expertise across a wide range of areas. Having successfully implemented integrated systems in organisations of all sizes, Dr Whawell’s background and expertise will bring many benefits to Velindre.

Speaking of the new appointment to Velindre, Dr Whawell said:

"I'm delighted to join Velindre, and I'm looking forward to making a positive contribution to Board activities."

Alongside regular auditing, Dr Whawell is a research academic and reviewer, and her academic interests are concerned with human-systems interface and overcoming barriers to the successful implementation and use of systems.

Dr Whawell also teaches part time at Manchester Business School, and she also teaches Lead Auditor courses for the International Register of Certificated Auditors (IRCA) accredited training body.

In her spare time, Dr Whawell volunteers with the Royal Air Forces Association (RAFA) to support veterans, and she enjoys playing the saxophone as part of a saxophone orchestra.
