Dr Richard Skone appointed Deputy Medical Director

We are delighted to announce that Dr Richard Skone has been appointed as Deputy Medical Director at Velindre University NHS Trust.

Richard will be with us on secondment from Cardiff and Vale University Health Board (CV UHB) to support our Trust Quality and Safety agenda and will be help strengthen and transform our clinical model for blood and cancer services, in partnership with CV UHB.

Richard will retain his clinical duties and continue to support the Medical Director's Office at CV UHB where he is currently a Consultant in Paediatric Intensive Care Medicine and Anaesthesia. He has also held several senior leadership positions including Responsible Officer, Interim Medical Director, Deputy Medical Director and Caldicott Guardian.  

This will further develop the close working relationship and leadership between Velindre University NHS Trust and Cardiff and Vale University Health Board.

Richard's post will be working directly with Dr Jacinta Abraham, Velindre University NHS Trust’s Executive Medical Director. This will enable us to provide a more strategic overview of cancer services directly impacting on the cancer patient pathway and oncology services run across the two organisations and support more productive regional working.

Speaking about his new role, Richard said:

“The next few years are clearly an exciting time to be part of VUNHST and I am truly looking forward to joining the team as Deputy Medical Director.  Over the last decade I have had the privilege of working with different areas within VUNHST. I am proud to formally be joining such a highly thought of organisation.”
