Dr James Powell, Consultant Clinical Oncologist at Velindre Cancer Centre and Clinical Academic at the Wales Cancer Research Centre (WCRC), has been appointed Clinical Lead for the Brain Tumour Research Initiative (BATRI), a new brain tumour research fund established by Cancer Research Wales.
A pioneering study led by Dr Magda Meissner, Consultant Medical Oncologist at Velindre Cancer Centre, and Sian Morgan, Director of the All-Wales Medical Genomics Service, has been nominated for two national awards.

Part of the Clinical Psychology team at Velindre Cancer Centre, Sarah has been recognised for services to palliative care during an outstanding career that has spanned several decades.

The Learned Society of Wales has awarded Fellowships to Professor Mark Taubert and Dr Seema Arif, Clinical Director for Palliative Medicine and Consultant Clinical Oncologist respectively at Velindre Cancer Centre.
A new scheme has been launched by Velindre Cancer Centre to recycle hundreds of walking aids a year. There are over 1.5 million people in the population supported by Velindre Cancer Centre and it welcomed 9,000 new patient referrals through its doors in 2023. Many of these patients need walking aids.
