An innovative digital app will be trialled as part of the Acute Oncology Service (AOS) project at Velindre Cancer Centre of which a key ambition is to work smarter to enhance patient care using technology.

Consultant Connect is a streamlined method of communication for clinical staff, within primary and secondary care teams across partner Health Boards. Clinical teams at the Cancer Centre will have access to the directory of services available in the app to obtain quicker access to specialist teams, bypassing busy switchboards. This will therefore lead to improved patient outcomes and increased staff satisfaction.

It will allow direct and immediate phone access between Velindre AOS clinicians, GPs, hospital doctors and community teams to discuss patient issues and obtain prompt advice and guidance to support patient care.

This pilot aligns with Velindre University NHS Trust’s objectives of being outstanding for quality, safety and experience, as well as a beacon for research, development and innovation. It will launch on 29 January and run for two months in collaboration with Cardiff & Vale University Health Board before wider rollout.
