It is non-invasive, can be used alone and supports traditional medicine. but is not a replacement for traditional medication or treatments.

Benefits of Reiki include:

Aromatherapy

Aromatherapy has been used for thousands of years.

The science of aromatherapy involves the extraction of essential oils from plants with the intent of providing therapeutic balance and support, physically and emotionally to the human body.

At Velindre, this can be achieved via topical application during massage (patch test needed).

However, we find the best way to support many of our patients is via inhalation. An aromatherapy stick can be blended with oils to suite the individuals need which can be discreetly kept and used when needed whether you are at home or out and about.

Oils maybe used for many concerns such as reducing the effects of anxiety, muscular aches and pains, fatigue and nausea - promoting sleep, relaxation and mood.

Massage

Massage is a way of providing support to the body to improve overall sense of wellbeing, promote relaxation and improve immune health, while reducing muscular aches and tension.

This is achieved by applying long, slow, gentle stokes to the body with light pressure, increasing blood flow which carries oxygen and nutrients to feed and maintain muscular health. While applying these strokes, we are also sedating the nervous system switching from “fight and flight” to “rest and repair”

Each treatment is adapted to fit the individual needs and is generally preferred to be applied to the back, neck and shoulders. However, it can be beneficial when applied to the hands, arms and legs.

At Velindre, massage is generally used within our outpatient appointments due to the practicalities of providing such a treatment on the ward and chemotherapy units.

It should also be noted that massage may not always be appropriate for an individual's needs.

Complementary therapy should be used alongside any conventional medical treatment and not in place of.

Reflexology

Reflexology is a Complementary Holistic Therapy based on a principle that uses gentle pressure on the hands and feet. These areas are called reflexes and connect to systems and organs of the body.

Softly pressing the reflex points helps to clear the energy pathways and bring better balance to health and wellbeing.

Our qualified reflexologists are skilled to help you manage during anxious times and improve your overall mood. Some of the symptoms this may help is peripheral neuropathy, nausea, fatigue and sleep disturbance.

We can show you how to do it on yourself or someone else, so the benefits last longer.

This Therapy does not tickle or hurt and is not a “foot rub”, but a therapeutic intervention.
