Dr Dasgupta’s post-graduate medical and academic training spans over England, Wales and Northern Ireland. Her undergraduate medical qualification was from Kolkata, India. In 2016, she was awarded PhD (Cancer Research UK) for identifying novel predictive/prognostic biomarkers in colorectal cancer (Queen’s University, Belfast, UK). In parallel, she was also awarded distinction marks in Post-Graduate Diploma for Oncology (Newcastle University, UK). She has published in peer reviewed journals, both as first author and co-author; and presented her work at national and international forums. She is Principal Investigator (PI) for several multi-centred randomised trials and translational projects. She is a co-author of Medical Oncology SCE Handbook (ACP, 2022), Educational Supervisor for Medical Oncology trainees, mentor for Pharmacy trainees and Faculty member of international FRCR course, led by Velindre University NHS Trust.
Dr Dasgupta’s passion for Cancer of Unknown Primary (CUP) developed during the time she led a brand new Acute Oncology service with a parallel running CUP service for Northern Ireland (North West Cancer Centre, Western Health and Social Care Trust). This novel model of integrated service underwent external peer review and was very well received. Relocating back to Wales, Dr Dasgupta became the founder and Clinical Lead for a new CUP Service in South East Wales. In 2023, she was appointed as National Lead for all Wales CUP Cancer Site Group. She also represents Wales in the National Cancer Research Institute (NCRI) UK CUP work stream.
Each patient is unique in their own way; recognising this and adopting a policy of personalised medicine, by integrating clinical details, conventional treatment, topical research and patient wishes brings her great satisfaction.
