Velindre research leads to NICE approved treatment for NHS breast cancer patients

National Institute for Health and Care Excellence has announced today that a treatment for advanced breast cancer that started its life in Cardiff more than 10 years ago, has been approved for use by the NHS in England and Wales.

QuicDNA take home Moondance Cancer Award

The QuicDNA study, clinically lead by Dr Meissner and co-investigated by Professor Richard Adams and Dr Paul Shaw, Consultant Clinical Oncologists at the Cancer Centre, took home an award at the Moondance Cancer Awards.

Brain Tumour Research Initiative provides new funding for research in Wales

Dr James Powell, Consultant Clinical Oncologist at Velindre Cancer Centre and Clinical Academic at the Wales Cancer Research Centre (WCRC), has been appointed Clinical Lead for the Brain Tumour Research Initiative (BATRI), a new brain tumour research fund established by Cancer Research Wales.

New phase of breast cancer treatment trial provides fresh hope for patients with incurable disease

The research, carried out by Velindre University NHS Trust, in partnership with AstraZeneca and Cardiff University over 10 years was presented at the world renowned American Society of Clinical Oncology conference on 4 June in Chicago and published simultaneously in the prestigious Lancet Oncology journal.

SYMPLIFY Study

Cancer is easier to treat if it is diagnosed early. There is a need to improve screening pathways and develop new diagnostic technologies that reduce the impact on NHS resources whilst specifically detecting those with cancer at an earlier stage.
