Persistent pain can interrupt and interfere with daily activities, and impacts on how a person feels about their sense of self and the future.
As persistent pain affects all parts of life, physical, emotional and social factors need to be considered in helping people live with long term pain. These include but are not limited to the following:
Pain Management involves recognising the interactions of all these areas of life, and finding new and different ways to improve everyday functioning – even if the pain itself cannot be fixed. Pain management aims to explain and reduce these effects by giving people information and helping them develop coping skills including movement based around the individual, that help improve their ability to manage pain.
