Satellite Radiotherapy Centre development

Work is underway on the new £38 million Radiotherapy ‘Satellite' Unit at Nevill Hall Hospital in Abergavenny.

The unit, which is set to open in the summer of 2025, will provide 20% additional capacity to our radiotherapy service provision and will reduce travel times for patients wherever possible.

The provision of a Satellite Radiotherapy Unit (SRU) was identified within the Transforming Cancer Services (TCS) Programme as a key development to facilitate timely and effective services to the south-east Wales population.

This centre is part of our collaborative, long standing working relationships with the health boards in south east Wales. We are working together to build the best model for care that ensures our patients continue to receive the treatment services they need as part of their cancer journey.

The investment will provide new and improved treatment for cancer patients, deliver safe radiotherapy services, and improve the capacity and efficiency of the service – by delivering quicker and more targeted treatment.

The centre will offer:

  • A Radiotherapy Satellite with 2 operational Linac machines;
  • Radiotherapy Planning;
  • On-treatment review;
  • On-treatment education; and
  • CT Simulator
