Executive Director of Nursing, Allied Health Professionals and Health Science

Nicola qualified as a Nurse in 1990 and has worked in the NHS ever since. Her early years were spent as a surgical nurse across a variety of different specialities. As well as being a passionate nurse Nicola has always had a strong focus on psychological safety in the workplace, quality, safety, patient experience and quality improvement and as led on a number of improvement programmes that have been implemented across Wales, such as preventing the development of pressure ulcers and developing systems for monitoring nursing standards from ward level through to Welsh Government level.

Nicola is a strong advocate for Nurse research and creating professional equity in relation to research and innovation.

In her current role Nicola is really proud to be able to not only represent Nursing on the Board but also the Allied Health Professionals and Healthcare Scientists. She had a lead role in respect of the Duty of Quality and Duty of Candour implementation, is the Nurse Executive lead for research and quality across Wales and recently established a muti professional Executive leadership peer group across Wales (covering all clinical professionals) aimed at enhancing the collective clinical voice and influence at policy level.
