About the unit:
The Velindre @Nevill Hall Hospital Chemotherapy Unit is located in Nevill Hall Hospital, Abergavenny.
This unit allows some treatments that are usually given at Velindre Cancer Centre to be provided closer to home.
Your treatment at Velindre @ Nevill Hall Hospital will be delivered by the same experienced nursing team from Velindre Cancer Centre.
How the unit works:
The unit is a nurse led unit which means that there will be no doctor based in the chemotherapy unit during your treatment.
Your care will be provided by highly trained nurses, including Advanced Clinical Practitioners (ACPs) who are specialist nurses with additional training and expertise in cancer treatments, assessment and care-planning.
Because this is a nurse-led service:
· You will not see a doctor during your visit to this unit.
· General medical advice or prescriptions cannot be provided during your treatment visit.
Although there is no Velindre doctor on site, the unit is based within a hospital. Clear plans are in place so that medical support can be accessed quickly in the event of an emergency.
Before your treatment appointment:
Before attending the Velindre @ Nevill Hall Chemotherapy Unit, you will have had a clinic appointment to assess your treatment. This appointment may be face-to-face or virtual. Your blood tests will also have been taken around this time.
When to attend the unit:
Please only attend your treatment appointment if you are feeling well and fit for treatment.
If you feel unwell before your appointment it is important to remember that there is no doctor available in the unit.
If you are feeling unwell, do not attend the unit. Instead, please contact the Velindre Treatment Helpline on:
· 02920 615888 and ask for the treatment helpline. This service is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
