Coronavirus and Velindre Cancer Centre

Information for patients - We are here for you

To ensure the health and safety of our patients and staff our first priority is the prevention and control of infection. We will always aim to consider individual patient needs and we are able to continue to accommodate compassionate visiting for inpatients agreed in advance with the ward sister/manager, we may also arrange a visit outdoors if it is practical to do so. We are not able to routinely accommodate visitors elsewhere in the hospital unless it is in exceptional circumstances.

If you would like to discuss this further please contact the relevant department.

The safety or out patients, staff and visitors continue to be our priority. We will let you know of any further changes via our website, social media channels and clinical staff.

Thank you for your cooperation

Face masks or coverings:

It’s no longer a requirement for staff, patients and visitors to wear a face mask or covering at Velindre Cancer Centre, except for the following areas:

  • First Floor Ward
  • Ambulatory Care
  • Assessment Unit
  • Patient Support Unit
  • Chemotherapy Day Unit
  • Clinical Trials
  • Rowan and Rhosyn Day unit

There is signage placed throughout the hospital to outline the requirements. However, those who would feel more comfortable wearing a face mask or covering are welcome to continue.

General Information Patient Appointments:

Please make every effort to attend your appointments as usual unless you have been contacted and advised otherwise.

If you are enquiring about your appointment or treatment appointment, please contact your consultant’s secretary. However, if you are currently receiving cancer treatment and are feeling unwell, have a temperature or any of the signs or symptoms on your alert card, please contact the Velindre Treatment Helpline on 02920 615888 and we will call you back.

General Information for Day Units:

We are kindly asking if patients could please be dropped off for treatment and collected later to avoid any relatives/friends remaining in the Centre at the time of the treatment, this is to reduce the risk of infection in the day units. If patients feel they need the support of someone with them please speak to the nurse in charge of the unit on the day of your treatment.
