Upcoming road improvement works for the new Velindre Cancer Centre development

We wanted to update you on some upcoming roadworks that are part of our new Velindre Cancer Centre development.

As part of our planning permission, Velindre is required to improve part of the road layout on Longwood Drive, adjacent to the Coryton interchange, to ensure better access to the new cancer centre.

This new layout will form part of the main entry point for vehicles when our new cancer centre opens in Spring 2027.

These improvements will make it easier for patients, staff, and visitors to reach the site while also helping to ease congestion at Coryton.

This work is scheduled to start on April 22 and is due to be completed by the end of January 2026.

Please note that this work is being carried out by local highways contractor Knights Brown Ltd. This is a different contractor to Sacyr, the company currently constructing our new cancer centre.

We appreciate your patience and support during these works. We understand that construction can be disruptive, and every effort is being made to minimise the impact on our community.

If you’d like to find out more, we host a monthly resident drop-in session where you can ask questions about the project.

The next session is on Wednesday April 30, at the Noddfa building (19 Park Road, near the rear car park of the current Velindre Cancer Centre) from 6pm to 7pm.

If you have any questions or concerns in the meantime, please contact us at contact.velindre@wales.nhs.uk.

Thank you for your continued support.
