It takes a team to carry out a research study with the patient at the centre of everything we do.
The research team includes a number of different people, and you will probably meet the clinical team members including:
The team may also include pharmacists, medical physicists, data managers and clinical trial coordinators, although you may not meet any of these people.
During a research study or clinical trial, you are likely to have the most contact with your research nurse. Their role is to coordinate your care – this includes organising investigations and taking blood samples. Nurses also give drug treatments.
The nurse will provide you with information about the research and answer any questions you may have. They are there to support both you and your family.
We recorded some short videos with some of the people who are part of the clinical trials team at Velindre. Watch them to find out more about each role.
