Velindre University NHS Trust is delighted to announce the appointment of Gillian Knight as Executive Director of Nursing, Allied Health Professionals and Health Science on a permanent basis.
Gill joined the Trust as Interim Executive Director earlier this year and has played a key role in providing strategic leadership across nursing, allied health professions and health science services. During this time, she has worked closely with colleagues across the organisation to support the delivery of high-quality, compassionate care and help shape the future direction of services across the Trust.
A registered nurse with a career spanning over 35 years, Gill has held a range of senior leadership roles spanning clinical practice, education, management and policy. Her career has included positions across NHS Wales, the Cancer Services Coordinating Group, Wales Cancer Network, the third sector and Welsh Government.
Prior to joining Velindre, Gill served as Deputy Chief Nursing Officer for Wales, leading key policy areas including workforce, education, professional strategy and regulation. She has also played an important role in implementing the Nurse Staffing Levels (Wales) Act 2016 and supporting the policy position around the Registered Nursing Associate role in Wales.
Carl James, Chief Executive of Velindre University NHS Trust, said:
"Gill has made a big impact to the Trust since joining us on an interim basis. She is a respected and compassionate leader who is deeply committed to creating an environment where colleagues feel supported to thrive and deliver exceptional care.
“I am delighted she has accepted the role permanently and look forward to working with her to further strengthen our services for patients and communities across Wales.”
