Computed Tomography (CT scans)

What is Computed Tomography (CT)?

Computed Tomography (CT scans), sometimes also known as Computed Axial Tomography (CAT), is a painless and sophisticated imaging procedure.

The scan involves taking multiple images. The images are then compiled into cross-sectional pictures ("slices") of the body. These show soft tissue, bone, and blood vessels. CT scans are quick (often between 5 and 10 minutes). To complete a scan, we will ask you to lie still on a couch while this passes through a wide open ring (the scanner).

If you need a CT scan, we will send you full instructions with your appointment. Any questions can be answered by any of the radiographers.
