Chemotherapy inpatient Unit (CIU)

In-patient chemotherapy treatments are given on our Chemotherapy inpatient unit

Our Chemotherapy inpatient unit has 14 inpatient beds for patients having inpatient chemotherapy treatment and for patients with chemotherapy associated side effects such as neutropenic sepsis. We also have 2 isotope cubicles for patients undergoing iodine 131 treatment. The isolation cubicles are necessary due to radioactivity used in the treatment.

Out-patient chemotherapy treatments are given via chemotherapy integrated services

Services include:

Chemotherapy Day-case Unit (CDU) - Patients having day-case chemotherapy. These treatments can take up to 8 hours. The unit is open from 8:30am - 6pm Monday to Friday.

Rhosyn Day Unit (RDU) - This unit provides a variety of treatments including chemotherapy. Hours are 8:30am - 6pm Monday to Friday.

Uned Dydd Rhosyn

Chemotherapy Outreach - Chemotherapy is also given in other hospitals in an outreach clinic by staff from Velindre's integrated service team. This now includes the chemotherapy mobile unit that can visit different locations.

Support services

A 24 hour support service for patients undergoing chemotherapy via Velindre. This is provided by a chemotherapy pager holder who uses a triage system to manage the side effects associated with chemotherapy.

Education

how to manage side effects and what to do if you get side effects
