Second pre-planning application period for the new Velindre Cancer Centre

Steve Ham, Chief Executive of Velindre NHS Trust said: “On April 7th, 2017, Velindre NHS Trust commenced the pre-planning application for the development of the new Velindre Cancer Centre on land to the north of Whitchurch Hospital Playing fields, Whitchurch, Cardiff.

“The pre-planning application is a legislative requirement which must take place for not less than 28 days. This concluded on May 8th exceeding the minimum number of days required.

“In addition to the pre-planning application process which includes notices to adjoining land owners, specialist consultees and site notices, the Trust has also been undertaking wider engagement with the local community, and will continue to do so.

“The planning application is not yet submitted to Cardiff Council for outline planning permission. When it is submitted, the Council will then undertake formal consultations as required by legislation.

“The pre-planning application process and our engagement with the local community has been extremely valuable with a number of important issues raised. Some members of the local community have also requested that we extend the pre-planning application period to allow for further engagement to take place. I believe this is the right thing to do so that we can continue to work closely with our local community.

“I can therefore confirm that a second pre-planning application period for the new Velindre Cancer Centre will take place, concluding on June 30th 2017.”
