You might be entitled to help with necessary travel costs if you need to travel to receive NHS treatment under the case of a consultant. The Welsh Government provides more information.

Winter Fuel Payment

The UK Government gives a Winter Fuel Payment of between £250 and £600 if you were born on or before 25 September 1956. This will include a Pensioner Cost of Living Payment in winter 2022 and 2023, in addition to any other benefit or tax credit you receive.

Cold Weather Payment

The UK Government also gives a Cold Weather Payment if you receive certain benefits. This is a payment of £25 a day for each seven-day period of cold weather during the winter.

Wales Fuel Support Scheme

The Welsh Government’s Wales Fuel Support Scheme gives a one-off £200 payment to eligible households to help pay fuel bills. It’s aimed towards low-income households. This is separate to the UK Government’s Winter Fuel Payment and Cold Weather Payment.

Welsh Government Warm Homes NEST Scheme

The Nest Scheme offers a range of free, impartial advice and, if you are eligible, a package of free home energy efficiency improvements such as a new boiler, central heating, insulation, or solar panels. This can lower your energy bills and benefit your health and wellbeing.

Discretionary Housing Payment

Local authorities can give Discretionary Housing Payments (DHPs) to provide financial support to help with rent or housing costs, except for council tax. This applies to both social and private sector tenants.

The Welsh Government backed Leasing Scheme Wales aims to increase access to and the affordability of renting privately in Wales. There are five local authorities taking part in the scheme in South East Wales.

Welsh Governments Discretionary Assistance Fund (DAF)

The Discretionary Assistance Fund provides two types of grants that you don’t need to pay back.

Emergency Assistance Payment (EAP)
A grant to help pay for essential costs, such as food, gas, electricity, clothing or emergency travel if you’re experiencing extreme financial hardship, have lost your job, have applied for benefits and you are waiting for your first payment. You cannot use it to pay for ongoing bills that you cannot afford to pay.

Individual Assistance Payment (IAP)
A grant to help you or someone you care for live independently in their home or a property that you or they are moving into.
