Executive Medical Director

Dr Jacinta Abraham (Jaz) is a Clinical Oncologist with over 17 years’ experience in treating Breast Cancer and taking on leadership roles as Breast Cancer Clinical lead for Velindre Cancer Centre and the Wales Cancer network.  She set up the South Wales Secondary Breast Cancer Multidisciplinary Forum and Registry in March 2010, which is the first of its kind in the UK.  As a Principal Investigator of Breast cancer studies,  she has led Velindre to become  a top recruiter, with national and international recognition.  

Jaz was appointed as Executive Medical Director of Velindre NHS Trust in January 2018 with direct responsibility for Velindre Cancer Centre and the Welsh Blood Service. In her current role she also provides All Wales  Medical Director leadership :as deputy chair of the All Wales Medical Director’s group, National Clinical Audit lead, the Genomics Partnership Wales Programme Board and the All Wales Governance Board for Cell and Gene Therapies in Wales.   She is also the Trust Executive Lead for Research Development and Innovation with ambition to lead the organisation to a place of sustained research excellence.
