nVCC wins top design award

We are delighted to share the news that the new Velindre Cancer Centre has won a prestigious design award. Our new cancer centre took home the honour in the Future Healthcare Design category at the prestigious European Healthcare Design Awards 2023 on Tuesday evening.

The awards are one of the most prestigious in healthcare architecture and recognise professional excellence in the design of healthcare environments across the world. The new hospital, designed by White Arkitekter, will be the greenest hospital in the UK. 

The design of the new cancer centre is both patient-centred and environmentally focused. It will combine a state-of-the-art facility for treatment and research alongside an outdoor space that is calming, encourages improved biodiversity, and gives back to the environment and community.

New Velindre Cancer Centre Project Director David Powell said: "I'm delighted that the hard work of our project team and our commitment to a sustainable design that places patients at the heart of our new hospital have been recognised. The development of the new Velindre Cancer Centre allows us to keep pace with increasing demand as the number of people referred to us with cancer grows every year. We have been committed to delivering a sustainable hospital for the health of our environment, our patients and staff, and the wider community. When complete, our cancer centre will pave the way for the NHS to achieve its wider carbon reduction goals and provide an exemplar low-carbon hospital.”

The awards defined a future healthcare project as one that can demonstrate the potential for outstanding outcomes in master planning, placemaking, wellness, pandemic preparedness and sustainable development and be in alignment with the strategic requirements of the healthcare provider to transform their services within the wider community, regional or national health system. The new Velindre Cancer Centre was on a shortlist of four contenders from the UK and Denmark.

Mae’n bleser gennym rannu'r newyddion bod y Ganolfan Ganser Felindre newydd wedi ennill gwobr ddylunio fawreddog. Enillodd ein canolfan ganser newydd yr anrhydedd yng nghategori Dylunio Gofal Iechyd y Dyfodol yng Ngwobrau mawreddog Dylunio Gofal Iechyd Ewrop 2023 nos Fawrth.

Mae'r gwobrau yn un o'r rhai mwyaf mawreddog ym myd pensaernïaeth gofal iechyd, ac maen nhw’n cydnabod rhagoriaeth broffesiynol mewn dylunio amgylcheddau gofal iechyd ar draws y byd. Yr ysbyty newydd, a ddyluniwyd gan White Arkitekter, fydd yr ysbyty gwyrddaf yn y DU.

Mae dyluniad y ganolfan ganser newydd yn canolbwyntio ar y claf, ac yn canolbwyntio ar yr amgylchedd. Bydd yn cyfuno cyfleuster o'r radd flaenaf ar gyfer triniaeth ac ymchwil, ochr yn ochr â gofod awyr agored tawel, a bydd yn annog gwell bioamrywiaeth, ac yn cyflwyno buddion i'r amgylchedd a'r gymuned.

Dywedodd Cyfarwyddwr Prosiect Canolfan Ganser newydd Felindre, David Powell: "Rwy'n falch iawn bod gwaith caled tîm ein prosiect a'n hymrwymiad i ddyluniad cynaliadwy sy'n gosod cleifion wrth galon ein hysbyty newydd wedi cael eu cydnabod. Mae adeiladu Canolfan Ganser Felindre newydd yn ein galluogi i gadw fyny â'r galw cynyddol wrth i nifer y bobl sydd yn cael eu cyfeirio atom gyda chanser dyfu bob blwyddyn. Rydym wedi ymrwymo i ddarparu ysbyty cynaliadwy ar gyfer iechyd ein hamgylchedd, ein cleifion a'n staff, a'r gymuned ehangach.

"Pan fydd wedi'i chwblhau, bydd ein canolfan ganser yn paratoi'r ffordd i'r GIG gyflawni ei nodau lleihau carbon ehangach, ac i ddarparu ysbyty carbon isel rhagorol."

Roedd y categori yr enillodd y Ganolfan Ganser Felindre newydd yn cynnwys prosiectau sydd yn gallu dangos y potensial ar gyfer cyflawni canlyniadau rhagorol mewn cynllunio meistr, creu lleoedd, gwell iechyd, paratoi ar gyfer pandemigau a datblygu cynaliadwy, ac sydd yn alinio â gofynion strategol y darparwr gofal iechyd i drawsnewid ei wasanaethau yn y gymuned ehangach, ranbarthol neu'r system iechyd genedlaethol.
