On 17 June, we attended a meeting for Whitchurch community groups arranged and hosted by Julie Morgan MS and Anna McMorrin MP. We are very grateful to them for arranging the meeting and providing us with an opportunity to discuss where we are with the new Velindre Cancer Centre project and to highlight opportunities to get involved in commenting on the updated reference design and the design of the community benefits package the bidders for the contract to build the new cancer centre will have to create for the local community.
We want to deliver a new cancer campus that respects the site’s landscape, as well as protecting and enhancing its biodiversity and the natural environment, so that patients, staff and the community are able to experience the therapeutic benefits of the natural landscape. Our ambition is to build the greenest hospital in the UK and we will use a ‘fabric first’ approach to the environmental design techniques, to optimise the use of energy and be zero carbon.
As part of that commitment, the design choices we make now, will have an enormous impact on our ability to meet these aims and we want to be able to share this document Community Presentation 17th Une 2021, to help you understand the updated reference design and the next steps in the design process for the new cancer centre.
